History

The Cambodian National Council for Women was established in 2001, refers to the Royal Decree No. NS/RKT/0201/036 dated on 14 February 2001. This Royal Degree (Preah Reach Kret) determines the creation of Cambodian National Council for Women, appreciated as CNCW. CNCW is the mechanism for coordinating and providing opinion to the Royal Government on matters relating to promoting the status and roles of women and the social welfare of Cambodian women and to eliminate of all forms of discrimination and violence against women.

CNCW composes of the following:

13- Secretary of State for Culture and Fine Art                   One (1) member

Cambodian National Council for Women duties are as follows:

    - Assisting the Royal Government to coordinate, follow up, and provide recommendations in the purpose of supporting and promoting the implementation of national policies, laws, orders, and measures relating to the promotion of status, roles, and social welfare of Cambodian women

    - Assisting the Royal Government in following up the implementation of international treaties concerning the rights of women and the implementation of national laws related to the suppression of human trafficking and sexual exploitation, the suppression of domestic violence and protection of victims and the provision of laws related to women in order to provide opinions, raise recommendations or to propose amendments according to cases to enhance the status of women

    - Facilitate the preparation of a national report on the implementation of the Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination against Women in the Kingdom of Cambodia and examine, and inform the Royal Government before final submission by them to the United Nations

    - Monitor and promote gender mainstreaming into national policies and national development programs of the Royal Government - Prepare annual reports on activities performed by the Cambodian National Council for Women, for submission to the Royal Government

    - Undertake other duties as directed by the Royal Government        

      The permanent General Secretariat directed by one Secretary General has the rank equivalent to the Under Secretary of State. Some Deputy Secretary Generals have the rank equivalent to Deputy Director Generals that transfer to work permanently at the General Secretariat some officers transfer to work permanently at the General Secretariat, CNCW.
